Queen of Interior Design: Kelly Hoppen

Kelly Hoppen

At the tender age of just 16, Kelly Hoppen’s career was kick-started when she was asked to design a family friend’s kitchen following their knowledge of her passion for interior design.

This modest request has since led to Kelly owning her own interior design company, writing 8 books, receiving several design awards and most famously being made an MBE for her services to interior design!

The award winning English designer, author, and proprietor of Kelly Hoppen Interiors has designed for numerous celebrities including David and Victoria Beckham and Martin Shaw, who was an early client of hers.

Not only does Kelly design home interior, she has designed the interiors of jets, hotels, restaurants and has most recently announced a collaboration with one of the UK’s leading luxury yacht builders, Pearl Yachts.

Kelly’s work and devotion has been reflected in the awards she has won over the course of her career so far. She has been awarded the ELLE Decoration Award, Grazia Designer of the Year, European Woman of Achievement 2007 and the Andrew Martin Interior Design Award in 1996.

Kelly is also an ambassador for the Prince’s Trust and in December 2013 was awarded the Natwest Everywoman Ambassador Award for inspiring young women to exceed.

Kelly HoppenIn January 2014, Kelly launched her own online store: www.kellyhoppen.com with all self-designed interiors where her creations and designs are displayed in a simple and contemporary way.

Customers are able to access information about her products and can purchase them directly from the website. The simplicity of her website allows the designs to be the key part of the page and you can’t help but want to see more of her designs as you work your way along the listed room categories.

Her East meets West theme, along with natural palettes, are Kelly’s signature design looks. Her aims when it comes to designing and decorating have always been about creating a calm and balanced atmosphere infused with Eastern cultures, for example, order and creation of harmony. She believes that how a person feels in a space is just as important as the way that space looks.

The website has a luxurious exterior to it and you feel like you’re going to be transported into a world of unimaginably unaffordable goods. However this is not the case and all products and furniture are in an affordable range. Discount offer events are available and there is a clearance section, just as any mainstream website would have, although this website is not mainstream. It is unique and full of thought – as is each and every item available to purchase.

In the same year her online store was launched, the Daily Telegraph ranked her as being the 2nd most influential female interior designer in Britain.

Kelly has made numerous television appearances, including presenting her own show on Channel 5 in 2011, Superior Interior’s, where she redesigned homes in need with her unique flair. Kelly is currently on our screens as a ‘dragon’ on BBC Two’s Dragon Den where she aims to help young entrepreneurs achieve their dreams.

Other television appearances include Alan Carr: Chatty Man, Lorraine and Loose Women. She has also paired up with various licensees to offer a range of other home products including furniture, wallpaper, fabrics etc. on QVC UK.

Alongside her design work and television appearances, Kelly has written 8 books dedicated to designing and creating the perfect home. Her latest book, published in November 2013, ‘Kelly Hoppen Design Masterclass – How to Achieve the Home of your Dreams’ gives an insight into Kelly’s unique creations, reveals her trade secrets, provides advice on keeping within a budget and includes a ‘Getting Started’ piece to ensure absolute guidance for her readers.

Kelly Hoppen has inspired viewers and readers for many years both on television, through books and more recently her website. Her quirky style fills a huge gap in the market of distinctive and elegant designs.
